The state of Michigan – short description:
The other lakes that form the state of Michigan are the Erie, Huron and Superior and there are other inland lakes with sandy beaches and meadows in the Lower Peninsula.
The Upper Peninsula by contrast is mountainous and offers a rugged landscape with vast stretches of forestland, streams, beaches and ski resorts.
This state has such a diverse landscape ranging from vineyards, orchards and forests to industrial areas with a high rate of production.
Along the shoreline that stretches for more than 5000 km there are more lighthouses than in any other state and also plenty of shipwrecks.
Detroit is a city that offers a vast range of cultural pastimes, from the Detroit Historical Museum to the Detroit Institute of Arts on to the Charles H Wright Museum of African-American history.
Lansing is the capital of the state, where the General Motors plant is situated; one can also tour the Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn.
For the outdoors enthusiasts the Mackinac Island is a favorite destination, here cars are out of bounds, the only means of transport being bicycles or horse-driven carriages. The Isle Royale National Park is also an excellent site for an adventure in the wilderness.
During the summer temperatures are warm, though cooler in the evenings and winters are very cold, notably around the Great Lakes.
