Honduras – short description:
Tegucigalpa is the capital and the population speaks Spanish, English as well as several Amerindian dialects. The temperate capital has a magnificent site, the Christ of the Picacho set on top of a mountain, from which one may admire the splendid views below. The historical center is also worth visiting.
Honduras offers many archeological sites, notably the ancient city of Copan, where glorious Mayan ruins can be explored; these are probably the best examples of the entire Mayan culture.
The archipelago of the Bay Islands as well as Roatan and Guanaja boast exotic beaches as well as a magnificent coral reef. Utila is another site with tiny cays and wide sandy beaches lined with palm trees.
Throughout the country there are several national parks with pine forests, cloud forests, mountains and rivers, here one can explore the natural sites in canoes and on foot.
The climate is a tropical one with cooler temperatures in the mountain areas. On the north coast it gets very hot and rains throughout the year. The dry season is from November to April.
